FREE UNIT CONVERTER

Pressure Converter

A pressure reading is only useful in a unit you recognise. Fixpio’s pressure converter changes pascals, kilopascals, bar, psi, atmospheres and millimetres of mercury into one another as you type โ€” no button to press and nothing to install. Use it when a car placard states bar but your gauge reads psi, when a manual gives kilopascals, or when a figure in mmHg needs to sit alongside metric readings. Every conversion runs through pascals, so the same reading always converts the same way.

Every conversion runs through pascals.

Convert Pressure

Enter a value, choose your From and To units, and read the result as it updates.

Result = value ร— (from unit in pascals รท to unit in pascals). For reference, 1 bar = 100,000 pascals.

When a pressure reading arrives in the wrong unit

Three everyday moments where converting first prevents a wrong setting.

Tyres

A door placard might say 2.2 bar, a forecourt pump might show kPa, and a handheld gauge might read psi โ€” all for the same tyre. Converting kpa to psi (or the reverse) before inflating keeps the tyre at its recommended pressure, and that recommended figure is the placard or handbook value, checked when the tyres are cold โ€” not the maximum printed on the tyre sidewall.

Engineering and equipment

Manuals, compressors and hydraulic or pneumatic equipment mix bar and kilopascals with psi depending on where they were made. A shared conversion avoids a setting being applied in the wrong unit.

Weather and health figures

Atmospheric pressure is expressed in atmospheres and, in medical contexts, blood pressure is recorded in millimetres of mercury โ€” 120 mmHg is a familiar systolic reading. Converting puts those figures on the same scale as metric equipment.

About this converter

Most people convert pressure at the moment two conventions meet: a European car’s bar placard and an American psi gauge, a manual in kilopascals and a pump in bar, a blood-pressure reading in mmHg and a chart in kilopascals. This page is built for exactly that moment. It is a pressure converter online in your browser, so there is no program to install and no account to create. Bar to psi is the conversion most visitors need โ€” multiply bar by 14.5037738 โ€” and the tool applies the exact factor for you, in either direction.

Under the hood, every unit is expressed in pascals first, which is what makes a pressure unit converter consistent: a pascal is one newton per square metre, a kilopascal is 1,000 pascals, and bar to kpa is simply ร—100 because one bar is exactly 100,000 pascals. An atmosphere is defined as 101,325 pascals, and a psi as 6,894.75729 pascals. Because each unit has one fixed pascal value, converting a reading there and back returns the number you started with.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about bar, psi, kilopascals and atmospheres.

How many psi are in a bar?

One bar is 14.5037738 psi. Worked example: to convert 2 bar to psi, first express it in pascals (2 ร— 100,000 = 200,000 Pa), then divide by the psi factor (200,000 รท 6,894.75729), giving about 29.01 psi. In the converter, enter 2, choose Bar as From and PSI as To, and you will see the same result.

What is 35 psi in bar and kPa?

35 psi is about 2.41 bar and about 241.3 kPa (35 ร— 6.894757 = 241.32 kPa; 241.32 รท 100 = 2.4132 bar). 35 psi is a common car tyre pressure, which is why this is one of the most frequent conversions โ€” always set tyres to the vehicle maker’s placard figure, measured cold.

What is standard atmospheric pressure in kPa?

One standard atmosphere (1 atm) is exactly 101,325 pascals, which is 101.325 kPa โ€” also 1.01325 bar and about 14.696 psi. It is the reference sea-level pressure that weather and engineering figures are compared against.

How many kPa is 120 mmHg?

About 16.0 kPa: one millimetre of mercury is approximately 133.322 pascals, so 120 ร— 133.322 = 15,998.6 pascals, or 15.999 kPa. 120 mmHg is the familiar systolic figure in a 120/80 blood-pressure reading.

What is a pascal?

The pascal (Pa) is the SI unit of pressure: one newton of force spread over one square metre. It is a very small unit for everyday use โ€” ordinary air pressure is roughly 101,325 of them โ€” which is why kilopascals, bar and psi are used for most real readings.

Is this converter free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and no account or sign-up is needed. It runs in your browser and updates as you type, so your values are not uploaded anywhere โ€” open the page and convert.
