WebP to JPG Converter

You saved a picture from a website and it arrived as a WebP file — and now the program you actually need it in will not take it. This webp to jpg converter turns that file into an ordinary JPG, the format photo editors, word processors, upload forms and printers have accepted for decades. Drop the WebP in, convert it here in your browser, and carry on with the document, listing or print order you were in the middle of. The picture itself is never sent to a server along the way.

Works with WebP images (.webp). The result is a JPG file (.jpg); if the original has see-through areas, they come out white — see the FAQ for why.

Starts at 92; keep it high for printing or editing, or lower it for a lighter file to email. Quality range: 10 to 100.

This tab does the work itself; your picture is not sent anywhere.

Why people turn WebP pictures back into JPG

Not because JPG is newer — because everything else already knows it.

↗

Documents stop arguing

A report, slide deck or application that shows a blank space where your picture should be will usually accept the same picture as a JPG without a murmur, including in older versions of office software.

✓

Listings and forms accept it

Marketplaces, job boards, school portals and property sites commonly ask for JPG by name. Converting first means the upload succeeds instead of bouncing you back to the form.

Sharing that just arrives

Send a JPG to a relative, a client or a print shop and it opens on whatever they are using. Nobody has to install a viewer or wonder what a .webp file is.

About this converter

WebP exists because websites wanted smaller pictures, and browsers happily display it — which is exactly why it keeps escaping into downloads folders, where the rest of your software is less enthusiastic. When you need webp to jpg online, what you are really asking for is a way to make that picture ordinary again: same image, familiar format, no special handling. That is the whole job of this page, and it happens on your own machine rather than on a computer belonging to us.

Treat it as a free webp to jpg converter for the moments in between other tasks — rescuing a reference photo for a presentation, preparing a product picture for a listing, or getting a print order unstuck. One thing to expect: because WebP squeezes a photo harder than JPG can, the converted file may come out somewhat larger than the one you dropped in. That is the price of a format everything opens, and for most uses it is worth paying.

WebP problems, answered

Why the file arrived this way, and what changes when it becomes a JPG.

How do I convert a WebP file I downloaded from a website?

Find the .webp file in your downloads, add it with the upload box on this page, and press Convert to JPG. The new picture downloads as a .jpg, ready to use in the program that refused the original. Renaming the file by hand does not do this — the insides have to be converted, which is what happens here.

Why did the image I saved arrive as WebP in the first place?

Because the website was serving it that way. Sites use WebP to keep their pages light, and when you right-click a picture in Chrome, Edge or Firefox and save it, you receive the file exactly as the site sent it — WebP extension and all. The picture is not damaged or incomplete; it is simply dressed in a format meant for browsers.

Why won’t my WebP picture open in Word, my editor or an upload form?

Those programs were built around the older photo formats, and many versions — older office suites, long-standing photo editors, plenty of website forms — never added support for a format designed for web pages. Converting the picture to JPG sidesteps the question entirely, because support for JPG is about as close to universal as computing gets.

My WebP has a transparent background. What will the JPG look like?

The see-through parts will be solid white in the converted picture. JPG has no way to store transparency, so there is nowhere for it to go — this tool fills those areas with white, which suits product photos and documents on white pages. If the transparent background itself is the point of the image, keep the WebP or choose a format that supports transparency instead.

Will the JPG be worse quality, or bigger, than the WebP?

Possibly a little larger, and that is normal: WebP stores a photo more efficiently, so the same picture as JPG often needs more bytes. On quality, converting at the default 92 keeps the picture looking like the original at ordinary viewing sizes — and since JPG and JPEG are simply two names for the same format, a file ending in either extension behaves identically. Convert once and then work from the JPG, rather than converting the same picture back and forth.

Is it safe to convert pictures here, and can I do it on my phone?

Yes to both. The tool runs inside the browser on whatever device you open it with — phone, tablet or computer — and your picture is processed there rather than posted to a server, so a screenshot, a family photo or a client’s image is not uploaded, kept or looked at by anyone. There is also nothing to install and no account to make before the Convert button works.
